Great Central Railway Bridge No. 515 Bridge 515 takes the road from Helmdon to Sulgrave across the Great Central Railway's cutting. The overgrown trackbed which is still walkable reminds one of express trains from London Marylebone to Sheffield and Manchester which used to roar through this now tranquil spot. It will now lie undisturbed as the new HS2 (which could have used this track if it hadn't been closed in the 1960's) will pass a few miles south at Radstone on its way to Birmingham and the north.

View south from Great Central Railway bridge The view south towards Helmdon from GCR bridge 515. The trackbed is fairly overgrown after 55 years of disuse, but is still walkable. It's a pity the line was closed in the 1960's as it would have made an excellent High Speed line to the north if updated, thus obviating the need to construct HS2.
