Mill Wood is a picturesque woodland area located in Nottinghamshire, England. Covering an area of approximately 100 acres, it is situated near the village of Woodborough and is part of the wider Sherwood Forest. The wood is owned and managed by the Forestry Commission.

Mill Wood is renowned for its diverse range of flora and fauna, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers. The wood is predominantly composed of oak, birch, and beech trees, providing a rich habitat for a variety of bird species, including the great spotted woodpecker, tawny owl, and tree creeper.

The wood is crisscrossed with a network of well-maintained footpaths and trails, allowing visitors to explore its natural beauty at their own pace. These paths lead to a tranquil stream that runs through the wood, adding to its charm and serenity.

In addition to its natural splendor, Mill Wood also has a rich historical significance. It is believed that the wood was once home to an ancient mill, which gave the area its name. Although the mill no longer stands, remnants of its foundations can still be seen, serving as a reminder of the area's industrial past.

Mill Wood offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, providing visitors with a chance to reconnect with nature and enjoy the beauty of the Nottinghamshire countryside. Whether it’s a leisurely stroll, birdwatching, or simply immersing oneself in the tranquility of the surroundings, Mill Wood offers something for everyone.

Welbeck Estate Buildings Also visible here on the right of picture is one of the many tunnel entrances built by the Fifth Duke. On this day I had already been redirected towards the Garden Centre after erring on foot onto this private area, and was in the process of re-orientating when a youth of heaped arrogance swerved his buggy into my path and attempted an intimidation way out of proportion to the minor incursion at hand. One day I hope, these vast and zealously guarded swathes will be finally opened up for all to share and there will be no more need for these proxy gate-keepers.
