The River Thames above Abingdon Seen from the Thames Path, with the entrance to Back Water (or Swift Ditch) just right of centre. For details about Back Water, now completely unnavigable, see SU5196 : Weir on The Swift Ditch. As others have remarked, there is very little protection here, merely a red DANGER sign. However the channel is so narrow that it is difficult to imagine anyone taking it by mistake.
