Swiss Cottage This picture of Swiss Cottage shows the ,"allotments," belonging to the children of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Each of the nine children had their own garden plot on which they grew a variety of vegetables. Their father, Prince Albert, would pay them the going rate for their vegetables so they had some pocket money. The whole area around Swiss Cottage was a practical education area. A small museum to one side of the cottage is full of geological exhibits and artefacts from different parts of the Empire. A small, realistic fort, Fort Albert, enabled the boys to learn military skills from an early age.

St Mildred's Church, Whippingham, Isle of Wight Whippingham Church is one of a tiny band of small village churches which have become closely linked with neighbouring Royal residences and therefore have a very great many beautiful, interesting and historical features. St. Mildred's Church in the Isle of Wight is surely an outstanding example of this little group. It becomes quickly apparent what personal attention and indeed loving care it has received from Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort and so many other members of the Royal Family, from its very design and building to the many beautiful features and memorials within it. Within the church the Battenberg Chapel has very close family associations. The Chapel contains memorials to Lord Louis Mountbatten (formerly known as Prince Louis Francis of Battenberg from birth till aged 17 when the Royal Family names were changed in 1917) and his elder brother George, 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven, together with his two older sisters, Princess Alice (mother of Prince Philip) and Queen Louise of Sweden.
