Marsh Copse is a wood located in the county of Wiltshire, England. Spanning an area of approximately 50 hectares, it is considered one of the most significant and well-preserved ancient woodlands in the region. The copse is situated near the village of Aldbourne, nestled in the picturesque Marlborough Downs.

This woodland is predominantly composed of deciduous trees, including oak, ash, beech, and birch. These trees create a dense canopy that provides shelter and habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. The forest floor is covered in a thick layer of leaf litter, creating a rich and fertile environment for a variety of woodland plants such as bluebells, primroses, and wild garlic.

The copse is crisscrossed by a network of well-maintained footpaths, allowing visitors to explore its natural beauty. These paths wind through the wood, passing by tranquil streams, small ponds, and open glades. The copse is a popular destination for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and walkers seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

The woodland is home to a diverse array of wildlife. Visitors may catch a glimpse of deer, foxes, badgers, and a plethora of bird species, including woodpeckers, thrushes, and owls. The copse also supports a range of insect life, with butterflies, bees, and dragonflies being particularly abundant during the warmer months.

Marsh Copse is managed by a local conservation organization, which ensures that its natural beauty and ecological value are preserved for future generations. It serves as a valuable resource for education, research, and recreational activities, attracting both locals and tourists alike to its tranquil and enchanting atmosphere.

              In Memory of
             HANNAH TWYNNOY
           Who died October 23rd 1703
              Aged 33 years.

              In bloom of Life
              She's snatched from hence
              She had not room
              To make defence;
              For Tyger fierce
              Took Life away
              And here she lies
              In a bed of Clay.
            Until the Resurrection Day.

(Hannah is believed to be the first person to be killed by a tiger in Britain.)
