Charcoal Burner's Camp Charcoal is produced by burning wood with a strict control on the air supply. The kiln has to be closely watched so the burner needs to be close by. We assumed this was the purpose of the tent, but there was no-one around to ask! Giving off double the heat of wood, charcoal was once sold as a fuel. 5 tons of wood would produce 1.25 tons of charcoal.
