Black Rock is a small island located off the coast of Cornwall, England. It is situated in the Celtic Sea, approximately 1.5 kilometers southwest of the popular tourist destination, Polzeath Beach. The island is known for its rugged coastline, dramatic cliffs, and unique rock formations.

Black Rock covers an area of about 0.2 square kilometers and reaches a maximum elevation of 44 meters. It is composed mainly of granite, which gives it its distinct dark appearance, hence the name "Black Rock." The island is accessible only by boat during low tide, as it is completely cut off from the mainland when the tide is high.

Due to its remote location, Black Rock remains largely uninhabited and untouched by human activities. However, it attracts a significant number of tourists and nature enthusiasts who come to explore its natural beauty. The island is home to various species of seabirds, including gulls, cormorants, and fulmars, making it a popular spot for birdwatching.

The rocky coastline of Black Rock offers breathtaking views and opportunities for coastal walks and geological exploration. The island's impressive rock formations, such as sea caves and towering stacks, are a testament to the power of natural erosion over time.

Overall, Black Rock is a secluded and picturesque island that provides visitors with a chance to experience Cornwall's wild and untamed coastal landscape.

Ruined Cottage on Rosevear This cottage was built for the workers building the Bishop Rock Lighthouse and has been abandoned since the construction ended in 1858. It would appear that it was built just about as soundly as the light itself as it is remarkably well preserved. Note that it was built to the north east of a large carn, sheltered from the southwesterly weather.
