A limestone landscape. Limestone is one of the most common sedimentary rocks found in New Zealand. Eye-catching features such as caves, sinkholes and spectacular skyline landscapes are often associated with limestone formations. These landforms have developed through the interaction of rocks, water and climate.

Otago coastline NZ The Bushy beach is located at only 5 minutes drive from the little town Oamaru. From the parking to the beach is a 15 minutes walk down the cliff. The beach isn't accessable after 3 pm due to Yellow Penguin returning from sea. Higher on the cliff is a Penguin vieuwing point by means of a little cabin. Very worthwhile to visit for nature lovers.

The grand, highly decorated buildings were built from locally quarried limestone - Oamaru whitestone, as it is called. Today the area is recognised as having New Zealand's most complete collection of Victorian buildings.

You can also join a local guide for a Walking Tour to learn more about the local community and the stories behind these beautiful buildings.
