It is the gatway for the <b><a href="https://wikitravel.org/en/Nam_Et-Phou_Louey_National_Protected_Area" rel="nofollow">Nam Et-Phou Louey National Protected Area</a></b>, which is home to a number of endangered species including tiger. <b><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laos" rel="nofollow">Laos</a></b>, officially the <b><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laos" rel="nofollow">Lao People's Democratic Republic</a></b>, or commonly referred to its colloquial name of Muang Lao, is a landlocked country in the heart of the Indochinese peninsula of Mainland Southeast Asia, bordered by Myanmar (Burma) and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south, and Thailand to the west. 

<b><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laos" rel="nofollow">Laos</a></b> is a one-party socialist republic. It espouses Marxism and is governed by a single party communist politburo dominated by military generals. The Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Vietnam People's Army continue to have significant influence in <b><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laos" rel="nofollow">Laos</a></b>.   The capital city is Vientiane. Other large cities include Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, and Pakse. The official language is Lao.

Ban Houaychang is a small village situated in the northern province of Louangphabang, Lao People's Democratic Republic. Located along the banks of the Mekong River, Ban Houaychang is surrounded by a lush landscape of rolling hills and terraced rice paddies that provide a unique backdrop to the lives of its residents.

The village is home to around 200 families and remains relatively unchanged since it was first established in the 18th century. Despite its small size and rural setting, Ban Houaychang is home to a variety of cultural attractions and activities. One of the most popular activities is visiting the nearby Wat Phu, a temple complex dating back to the 11th century. The Wat Phu complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to several important Buddhist shrines and temples.

In addition to its cultural attractions, Ban Houaychang is also well known for its traditional Lao cuisine. The village is renowned for its freshly prepared dishes such as larb, a spicy minced meat dish, and tam som, a sweet and sour soup. Visitors can sample these dishes at the local restaurants or buy ingredients from the nearby market.
