View WNW from a point west of King's Buildings I was a little south of the marked bridleway when I took this photo. It's difficult to find and follow the bridleway. An obvious track cuts across the field to the south of it - so I followed that.

Bignor is a small village located in the district of Chichester, West Sussex, England. Situated on the South Downs, it is nestled in a picturesque rural landscape, characterized by rolling hills, lush green meadows, and dense woodlands. The village is approximately 12 miles northwest of the coastal city of Brighton and Hove.

Bignor is best known for its historic Roman Villa, which attracts visitors from all over the country. The Bignor Roman Villa is one of the largest and most complete Roman villas in Britain. The site dates back to the 1st century AD and offers a fascinating glimpse into Roman life, with its well-preserved mosaic floors, hypocaust heating systems, and intricate wall paintings. The villa is surrounded by beautiful gardens and offers stunning views of the South Downs.

Apart from its Roman heritage, Bignor also boasts a charming village center with a mix of traditional thatched cottages and more contemporary houses. The village is home to a small but friendly community, with a village hall, a primary school, and a local pub serving as social hubs for residents.

The surrounding area offers ample opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking, cycling, and horse riding, thanks to its proximity to the South Downs National Park. Visitors can explore the scenic trails and enjoy breathtaking views of the countryside.

In summary, Bignor is a delightful village in Sussex, famous for its Roman Villa and its idyllic location amidst the natural beauty of the South Downs.

Sydenham Cottage This cottage seemed unlived-in - which, I imagine, is unusual in a prosperous village like West Burton.

Trees by a ditch I stopped to photograph the French-style plantation of young poplars (seen left) and only then realised that the rank vegetation in the foreground was growing along a roadside ditch - overgrown but still very wet.
