Carraigean is a prominent headland located in Argyllshire, a coastal region in western Scotland. Situated on the picturesque coastline, Carraigean offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean.

This headland is characterized by its rugged and rocky terrain, with steep cliffs that plunge into the sea below. The cliffs are made up of various geological formations, including layers of sandstone and limestone, which have been shaped over centuries by the relentless force of the crashing waves.

Carraigean is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, with its rocky slopes providing a habitat for numerous seabirds, such as gannets and puffins, that nest on the cliffs. The surrounding waters are also rich in marine life, including seals and dolphins, which can often be spotted swimming in the vicinity.

Visitors to Carraigean can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking along the headland's coastal trails, birdwatching, or simply soaking in the breathtaking views. The headland is easily accessible by foot or by car, with a designated parking area nearby.

In addition to its natural beauty, Carraigean also holds historical significance. It is believed to have been a site of ancient settlements, and remnants of prehistoric structures have been discovered in the vicinity. These archaeological finds provide a glimpse into the rich history of the area and add to the allure of Carraigean as a destination for both nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike.

Rough and improved ground at Oronsay Farm The ground to the right of the picture is rough grazing and boggy in parts. That to the left has been enclosed by a stone dyke and improved. The section furthest from the farm appears to be reverting somewhat to rough grazing, but the east-most section is in better condition and is used as a bull park.
