East Cliff is a prominent natural feature located in Hampshire, England. It stretches along the eastern coastline of the county, offering breathtaking views of the English Channel. Rising to an impressive height, East Cliff is characterized by its steep slope and dramatic cliffs, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

The cliff is composed of various geological formations, including layers of chalk and clay, which have been shaped and eroded by the relentless forces of wind and water over millions of years. This erosion has resulted in the creation of caves, gullies, and distinctive rock formations along the cliff face.

The slope of East Cliff is notable for its diverse flora and fauna, with several species of plants and animals making their home in this unique habitat. The cliff supports a variety of vegetation, including grasses, shrubs, and wildflowers that cling to the rugged terrain. Birdwatchers are often drawn to East Cliff, as it provides an ideal nesting site for numerous seabirds, such as gulls and cormorants.

In addition to its natural beauty, East Cliff also holds historical significance. It has witnessed various human activities throughout the centuries, including ancient settlements, medieval fortifications, and World War II defenses. Ruins and remnants of these structures can still be seen along the cliff edge, adding an element of intrigue to the landscape.

East Cliff is a remarkable natural landmark that showcases the raw power of nature and offers a glimpse into the rich history of the region. With its awe-inspiring views, diverse ecosystems, and historical remnants, it continues to captivate visitors and serves as a testament to the dynamic forces that have shaped Hampshire's coastline.

Bournemouth Pier Approach – 1969 The area has changed out of all recognition. The public baths building has disappeared, and indeed its later replacement too, while the area is now overlooked by the elevated roadway between Bath Road and Exeter Road which does allow unimpeded pedestrian movement between Lower Gardens and the beach. The long string of trolleybuses is exceptional. They were lined up for the ceremonial procession marking the end of trolleybus operation in Bournemouth. By this time the wiring to the Pier was only used occasionally, but it provided a suitable location for parking a large number of vehicles, which could not have been achieved in the central part of the town.

Christchurch Road, Lansdowne – 1969 At the time this was still the main A35, running through the centre of the town. In the background is the entrance to the Odeon cinema, nestling between the apartment blocks on either side.
