Cowdyke is a small freshwater wetland area located in Lincolnshire, England. Situated amidst the picturesque countryside, it provides a serene and natural environment for both locals and visitors to enjoy. The wetland consists of a lake, pool, pond, and freshwater marsh, each contributing to its unique ecosystem.

The lake at Cowdyke is the main attraction, covering a significant portion of the area. With its calm and crystal-clear waters, it offers a perfect spot for fishing enthusiasts. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, such as perch, pike, and roach, making it a popular destination for anglers of all skill levels.

Adjacent to the lake is a pool, which serves as a habitat for various aquatic plants and invertebrates. The pool's shallow depth and still water create an ideal environment for the growth of water lilies, reeds, and other water-based flora. This, in turn, attracts a diverse range of wildlife, including ducks, herons, and dragonflies.

A smaller pond can also be found within the wetland, providing a peaceful spot for amphibians like frogs and newts to thrive. The pond's still water and surrounding vegetation make it an excellent breeding ground for these creatures, contributing to the overall biodiversity of Cowdyke.

Lastly, the freshwater marsh at Cowdyke completes the wetland ecosystem. This marshland is characterized by its waterlogged soil and abundance of grasses, sedges, and rushes. It supports a wide array of bird species, such as snipes, lapwings, and reed buntings, making it a popular spot for birdwatchers.

Overall, Cowdyke in Lincolnshire offers a tranquil and diverse wetland experience, showcasing the beauty of nature and providing a habitat for various flora and fauna.

Church of St Margaret, Usselby Grade II Listed 14th century church restored 1749 and in 1889 by Hodgson Fowler of Sheffield. The locals saved it from closure in 2013 but it is on the Heritage at Risk Register. Historic England describes it as having 'Numerous issues including ivy growth, blocked and slipped downpipes, localised defects and cracks and broken glass. Roofs appear to be in good order but bellcote at risk of immediate loss'. A plaque at the back of the church records the receipt of Queen Anne's Bounty in 1749 a scheme, established in 1704, aimed to increase the income of the poorest clegy through the purchase of land; the rental income was paid to the incumbent.
